Can You Put a Blender in the Dishwasher?

You can clean parts of a blender in the dishwasher, but not the whole device. The rubber ring, for example, can go in the dishwasher if the user manual says it’s all right. Most blender pitchers are dishwasher safe, but the same cannot be said about a blender base, since it usually has electrical components that can be destroyed in the dishwasher.

Different Types of Blenders

There are many different brands of blenders, so the first thing you’ll want to do is check the instruction manual to learn exactly how to clean the one that you own. While the pitchers are safe to put in the dishwasher, any part that is connected to electricity should not be cleaned this way. Blender components can make these appliances a little tricky to clean, which is why you should familiarize yourself with the brand you have to make sure you don’t accidentally ruin your blender when you’re trying to clean it.

So does this mean that cleaning a blender is hard work? Not really. Here are some easy steps to take to thoroughly clean the inside of your blender every time.

How To Clean the Inside of a Blender

If the user manual for your blender advises you to do something different for the cleaning process, always go by what it tells you to do. But here’s how we clean the inside of a blender:

  1. Put some warm water in the blender, then squirt a little bit of dishwashing liquid in it
  2. Place the blender on the base and cover it
  3. Blend the water and dishwashing liquid mixture for 10 to 30 seconds
  4. Remove the blender from the base and pour out the mixture
  5. Thoroughly rinse out the inside of the blender with hot water

Can You Wash a Blender by Hand?

There is certainly nothing wrong with cleaning a blender by hand, but again, the parts that are electrical should never be soaked in water. Also, the sharp blades can cut your fingers if you aren’t careful. For sharp or electrical parts, you can fill up the sink or a container with hot soapy water and dip a washcloth in it. Then wring the towel out so that it is damp but not wet. Unplug the blender, then use the washcloth to clean the parts of the blender that cannot go into the water.

Be extra careful if you get anywhere near the blender motor because water and electricity should never mix. This is why your washcloth should only be damp and never wet. These tips can be followed whether you blend various hot food items or stick with just cold foods. To keep your blender clean, you should do this once a month, or once a week if you have hard water.
